Still in Pain After Trying Everything? A Second Opinion Can Help You Find a Next Step

Still in Pain After Trying Everything? A Second Opinion Can Help You Find a Next Step

You have seen a provider. Maybe several. You have tried resting, stretching, medication, exercises, or treatments that helped for a while but never quite got you back to normal. Each appointment brings another explanation, and eventually you begin to wonder: Is this just something I have to live with?

If that sounds familiar, you deserve a fresh look at the problem. A second opinion is not about proving that someone else was wrong. It is a chance to step back, put the pieces together, and decide what makes sense to try next.

Being told “everything looks fine” does not make your pain less real

Imaging, tests, and previous evaluations can provide valuable information. They do not always explain why your back hurts when you run, why your shoulder still catches when you lift, or why your symptoms keep returning when you increase activity.

Your story matters, too. When did the problem start? What has changed? What movements bring it on? What have you already tried, and what happened when you tried it? Just as important: what do you want to get back to doing?

Those questions can help guide a more useful plan, even when you do not yet have a simple answer.

What a second opinion at Highland looks like

At Highland Spine + Sport, we start by listening to the whole story and reviewing relevant records or imaging you already have. Then we examine how you move, look at the activities that reproduce your symptoms, and talk through what we find in plain language.

From there, we work with you on a practical next step. That might mean changing how you are loading an irritated area, trying a focused exercise plan, using hands-on care when it fits, or measuring your response over a short period so we can adjust. If the findings suggest you need imaging, another specialist, or a different type of care, we will say so.

We cannot promise that one visit will solve a long-standing problem. We can promise to take your concerns seriously, explain our reasoning, and be honest about what we can and cannot help with.

You do not need to start over from scratch

Bring what you have: prior imaging reports, a list of treatments you have tried, and a few notes about what makes symptoms better or worse. You do not have to have every record in hand to make an appointment.

Most of all, come with a goal. Whether it is running four miles, lifting your child, getting through a workday, or sleeping without being woken by pain, that goal gives us something meaningful to work toward.

You may not have found the right next step yet. That is different from having no next step.

Feeling stuck? Schedule a second-opinion evaluation at Highland Spine + Sport in Roanoke. Let’s take a closer look together.
